About Gifmoji

Gifmoji is a free tool for turning photos into animated emoji: the spinning, bouncing, laser-eyed reactions that make team chats and community servers fun. Upload a photo, pick one of 110+animations, and download a GIF that's ready to add to Slack, Discord, Twitch or Microsoft Teams.

Why we built it

Making a custom emoji used to mean wrestling with an image editor, then trial-and-error to get under each platform's size limit. Most online emoji generators also upload your photo to their servers, which isn't great when the photo is of your face, your kids or a colleague.

Gifmoji does everything in your browser instead. It is quick, it doesn't need an account, and your photos stay private.

How it works

• Animation engine. Each effect is described as a sequence of per-frame transforms (move, rotate, scale, fade), optionally combined with an animated overlay such as flames or sunglasses. Gifmoji renders every frame of your emoji on an HTML canvas.
• Background removal. When you switch it on, an AI segmentation model is downloaded to your browser and runs locally on your device. Your photo is never sent anywhere.
• Platform-aware export. Each export preset knows its platform's dimensions and file-size cap. If a GIF comes out too large, Gifmoji re-encodes it with a smaller color palette to fit.

Free, supported by ads

Gifmoji is free to use. To cover hosting and development we may show ads on content pages. Ads never have access to your photos, since those never leave your device. See our privacy policy for details on cookies and advertising.
